The 2026 Parent’s Guide to Discovery Cube Orange County

Before we officially committed to a membership, we took advantage of the Bank of America “Museums on Us” program. It’s the perfect way to spend a day at the Cube without the price tag of a full family ticket.

  • The Deal: If you have a Bank of America credit or debit card, you get one free general admission ticket per cardholder.
  • The Timing: This offer is available during the first full weekend of every month.
  • Important Tip: For Discovery Cube OC, this is typically valid on Sundays only. If you aren’t ready for a membership yet, this is the best way to get a full day of fun for free!

This fast-paced, interactive game is a huge hit for competitive kids. You only get about 20 seconds per category, making it a fun way for the whole family to learn what actually belongs in the recycling bin! The Goal: Players must sort household waste into Landfill, Recyclable, Green Waste, and Hazardous Waste bins before time runs out. The Fun: As you sort correctly, your digital trash truck races toward the finish line.

Discovery Market: Shopping with Tech

An “upgraded” version of playing grocery store. The Experience: Kids use a kid-sized shopping cart equipped with a touch-screen scanner. The Mission: They scan items to solve challenges about healthy and eco-friendly choices. The Payoff: Completing games gets their picture on the “Wall of Fame”—my kids love achieving “Super-Eco-Shopper” status!

The Raceway: Where the Fun (Usually) Starts

Right at the entrance, the Physics Lab Raceway is where my 5 and 9-year-old boys spent a massive chunk of time when we first started going to the Cube. What it is: Kids assemble toy cars and test them on different tracks to see who is the fastest. The Reality: We usually just let the boys lead the way here and stay as long as they want; it’s the perfect “doing” exhibit to start the day.

Sea Lab

A permanent highlight where the touch tanks are located. Hands-on: Kids can actually touch live sharks, rays, and other marine life.

Dino Quest: The “Five Freeway” Icon

Everyone knows it as the “Dinosaur Museum on the 5 Freeway,” but the giant skeleton is gone! It’s been replaced by the fully reimagined Dino Quest at Discovery Cube Orange County—a high-tech scavenger hunt where each kid gets a Dino Tracker machine to solve missions. The Dino Tracker: Each kid gets a handheld machine to solve puzzles at various stations throughout the exhibit. This interactive technology allows kids to take on roles like ‘paleontologist-in-training’ as they complete their missions

Outdoor Bonus: Organic Waste Lab

Just outside the garden area, there is a water tank exhibit. It’s the perfect outdoor spot for kids to play with the water flow and burn off energy (while getting a little wet!).

We participated in all the special events this past year, and my kids really enjoyed them. Honestly, I think it was these seasonal rotations that ultimately convinced me to get our membership!

  • Solar System Encounter: Open through February 22, 2026, featuring 360° planet models. Check out my OC Family-Friendly Events This Weekend! post.
  • Gingerbread Wonderland: A holiday must for building candy cars in the “Gingerbread Garage.”
  • Enchanted Halloweekends: Fun, educational, and perfect for younger kids.
  • Bubblefest: A massive highlight (members get early access to these tickets!).

  • The Daily Cost: General admission is ~$25 for adults and ~$22 for kids. For a family of four, plus $10 parking, one visit is roughly $104.
  • The Pass: A Family Membership is $180 annually (covers 2 adults + 4 kids).
  • The Parking Hack: Add the Annual Parking Pass for $35. Without it, you pay $10 every time; with it, you “save” starting on your 4th visit.
  • The Verdict: If you visit just twice, the membership has paid for itself!
  • Ticket pricing and promos change, always confirm on the official site.

Don’t forget that your membership isn’t just for the Santa Ana location—it also includes Discovery Cube Los Angeles!

  • Road Trip Ready: We visited the LA location during a road trip north this past year, and it was such a great stop.
  • The Difference: While both locations have those classic Cube vibes, the LA location has exhibits that are specific to the valley. We especially loved the Santa Ana Winds simulator. It actually reminded me of the hurricane simulator you see at places like Pump It Up during birthday parties. The big difference? At those party venues, parents usually have to swipe a credit card every single time a kid wants to play because it’s not included in the package. At the Discovery Cube Los Angeles, it’s all included! It’s such a relief to just let them play as much as they want without reaching for my wallet

This is the best-kept secret of being an OC local.

  • The 2026 Swap: In January 2026, we used our Cube membership for free entry to the Santa Ana Zoo and Bowers Museum.
  • Why it Matters: Even though Bowers is free for kids 11 and under, it saved us $36+ in adult admissions.
  • Pro-Tip: These swaps aren’t guaranteed every year. Be sure to follow the Santa Ana Zoo and Bowers Museum on social media—they often announce these collaborations in December or January.

If you’re already a member, don’t just renew on the day you expire! Keep a close eye on your email during these two windows:

  • The Thanksgiving Window: They often run a 20% off renewal special during the holidays (Black Friday/Cyber Monday).
  • The “Early Year” Second Chance: If you miss the Thanksgiving deal, check your inbox in January. They often send a “Welcome to the New Year” follow-up offer with that same 20% discount to get people to renew for the upcoming year of events. Even if you renew early, the new year is usually added to the end of your current membership, so you don’t lose any time. I missed the November deal but caught the January email, and it saved me about $36!

Before you buy your tickets, it is always worth checking the Discovery Cube “Promotions” page. They are very supportive of the local community and often have special offers for Educators, Military families, and Santa Ana Residents (Look for the “Resident Free Days”). Since these deals change seasonally, I recommend a quick peek at their official promotions page while you’re planning your trip.

If your family travels, this perk alone can pay for your membership! Your Discovery Cube pass gives you free or discounted admission to over 350 science centers and museums worldwide. I recommend checking the official ASTC list before any family trip. It’s an easy way to save $50–$100 on a single vacation day!

  • The “90-Mile” Rule: To get free admission, the museum you are visiting must be located more than 90 miles (as the crow flies) from both your home and Discovery Cube OC.
  • Local Limits: This means you generally cannot use it for free entry at nearby spots like the California Science Center in LA or the Fleet Science Center in San Diego, as they are within that 90-mile radius.
  • Always Pack Your Card: Most participating museums require you to show your physical membership card and a photo ID to prove you live outside their local area.
  • Q: Is parking free at Discovery Cube OC?
    • A: No, it is $10. However, members can purchase an annual parking pass for $35. Note: Parking is free at the Los Angeles location!
  • Q: Can I bring my own food?
    • A: Officially, outside food isn’t allowed in the cafe’, but we always pack small snacks and water for the kids.
  • Q: Is there food inside?
    • A: Yes! The new Lunch Lab Café is now open inside Discovery Cube Orange County. Lunch Lab offers a full café menu with kid-friendly meals, sandwiches, salads, snacks, and drinks — making it much easier to stay onsite for lunch during your visit. 👉 You can preview the full Lunch Lab menu here: Lunch Lab Menu.
  • Q: What if we want more options after?
    • A: MainPlace Mall just north of Discovery Cube Orange County offers a variety of dining options — from quick bites like Boudin SF and California Plate inside the mall to sit-down restaurants such as Olive Garden, Panini Kabob Grill, Pho Rose, and Mi Casa Oaxaca nearby. View the full dining directory here: MainPlace Mall Dining
  • Q: Is it stroller-friendly?
    • A: Yes, there are elevators, but the first floor gets crowded. I recommend a carrier for babies to navigate the Raceway area more easily.
  • Q: What are Sensory Friendly Mornings?
    • A: Every 3rd Sunday (8:00 AM – 10:00 AM), the Cube dims lights and turns off music for guests with sensitivities.
